Jason was born in Queen City, Texas to Bishop J. Peters and Teledeo Simington on January 22, 1982, as Jason Raynard Peters, one of his parents’ four children. He has three brothers, namely Jerry, Tim and Will Peters.

Professional career

During his senior season, he recorded more blocks knocked down than catches and thus spent time building up and projecting himself in the NFL as an offensive tackle ahead of the 2004 draft. Sports Illustrated projected him as a fourth-round pick early on, but he ultimately went undrawn.

The Buffalo Bills would later select him as an un-signed free agent in April 2004 and re-sign him to the practice squad. In November of that year, he was moved to the active roster, where he started to stand out as a scorer at the corner and on kickoffs. Jason Peters also began learning to play in the tackle position under coach Jim McNally (offensive line coach).

In 2006, Peters was rewarded with a five-year, $15 million contract extension after beating former Texas star Mike Williams for throwing right tackle. He would start the 2007 season as right tackle, but would later be moved to left tackle to replace Mike Gandy, who was moved to left guard.

He was chosen to start at left tackle on the AFC Pro-Bowl team and became the first Bills offensive lineman to be selected for the Pro Bowl after Ruben Brown, but unfortunately he was unable to attend the game in due to a groin injury he suffered in a game against the New York Giants and was replaced by Joe Thomas.
